This explains what we keep about you and why. The Hillbilly Way is responsible for your data. Questions or requests: contact@thehillbillyway.com.
What we keep
- When you buy: your email, your name if you give it, what you bought, the amount, and the country and ZIP or postal code from your card. Stripe handles your card; we never see or store the number.
- When you write to us, ask for the checklist or leave a review: your email, your message, and what you asked for.
- When you visit: which pages and sections you looked at, the kind of device, your country, and which of our videos or links sent you here. We don't store your IP address with this. Your browser keeps a random visit number and the link you came from in its local storage so we can tell which video helped.
- After you buy: when your books were downloaded and, if you answer it, the short survey on the thank-you page.
Why we use it
- To deliver your books, help you and handle refunds (to carry out our contract with you).
- To keep tax and accounting records (because the law requires it).
- To see which videos and pages work and to stop fraud (our legitimate interest in running the store).
- To send The Sunday Porch Letter and the checklist letters (only because you asked; you can stop them with one click).
- To send a few short emails after a purchase, like checking the books opened or offering the other books (our legitimate interest; you can unsubscribe any time).
What we don't do
We don't sell your information, rent it or share it for advertising. There are no advertising trackers or pixels on this site. We don't make automated decisions about you.
Who helps us
These companies process data only to do their job for us: Stripe (payments and fraud checks), Resend (sending and receiving email), Railway (hosting and our database) and Google Fonts (the lettering on the page, which your browser loads from Google). Some of them are in the United States. Those transfers are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
Order records: as long as tax law requires, usually 7 years. Emails with us and review details: up to 3 years after we last hear from you. Visit records: 2 years. Newsletter addresses: until you unsubscribe, then we keep just enough to make sure we don't write again.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, delete or take a copy of your information, to limit how we use it, or to object to how we use it. You can withdraw consent any time. Write to contact@thehillbillyway.com; we answer within 30 days. If you're unhappy, you can complain to the Cyprus Commissioner for Personal Data Protection (dataprotection.gov.cy) or the data protection authority where you live.
US residents: depending on your state, you have the right to know, access, correct and delete your personal information and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don't sell or share it for targeted advertising. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
Children
This store is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their details, write to us and we'll delete them.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS, payments go through Stripe, download links are signed so they can't be guessed, and only we can open the admin panel. No system is perfectly secure, but we'll tell you if something goes wrong with your data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Big changes that affect you, we'll tell you by email.
